#Chiaki

Disclaimer: This project is not endorsed or certified by Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC.

Chiaki is a Free and Open Source Software Client for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 Remote Play

for Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Android, macOS, Windows, Nintendo Switch and potentially even more platforms.

#Project Status

As all relevant features are implemented, this project is considered to be finished and in maintenance mode only.

No major updates are planned and contributions are only accepted in special cases.

#Installing

You can either download a pre-built release or build Chiaki from source.

#Downloading a Release

Builds are provided for Linux, Android, macOS, Nintendo Switch and Windows.

You can download them here.

Linux: The provided file is an AppImage. Simply make it executable (chmod +x .AppImage) and run it.

Android: Install from F-Droid or download the APK from Sourcehut.

macOS: Drag the application from the .dmg into your Applications folder.

Windows: Extract the .zip file and execute chiaki.exe.

Switch: Download the .nro file and copy it into the switch/ directory on your SD card.

#Building from Source

Dependencies are CMake, Qt 5 with QtMultimedia, QtOpenGL and QtSvg, FFMPEG (libavcodec with H264 is enough), libopus, OpenSSL 1.1, SDL 2,

protoc and the protobuf Python library (only used during compilation for Nanopb). Then, Chiaki builds just like any other CMake project:

git submodule update --init

mkdir build && cd build

cmake ..

make

For more detailed platform-specific instructions, see doc/platform-build.md or switch/ for Nintendo Switch.

#Usage

If your Console is on your local network, is turned on or in standby mode and does not have Discovery explicitly disabled, Chiaki should find it.

Otherwise, you can add it manually.

To do so, click the "+" icon in the top right, and enter your Console's IP address.

You will then need to register your Console with Chiaki. You will need two more pieces of information to do this.

#Obtaining your PSN AccountID

Starting with PS4 7.0, it is necessary to use a so-called "AccountID" as opposed to the "Online-ID" for registration (streaming itself did not change).

This ID seems to be a unique identifier for a PSN Account and it can be obtained from the PSN after logging in using OAuth.

A Python 3 script which does this is provided in scripts/psn-account-id.py.

Simply run it in a terminal and follow the instructions. Once you know your ID, write it down. You will likely never have to do this process again.

#Obtaining a Registration PIN

To register a Console with a PIN, it must be put into registration mode. To do this on a PS4, simply go to:

Settings -> Remote Play -> Add Device, or on a PS5: Settings -> System -> Remote Play -> Link Device.

You can now double-click your Console in Chiaki's main window to start Remote Play.

#Acknowledgements

This project has only been made possible because of the following Open Source projects:

Rizin,

Cutter,

Frida and

x64dbg.

Also thanks to delroth for analyzing the registration and wakeup protocol,

grill2010 for analyzing the PSN's OAuth Login,

as well as a huge thank you to FioraAeterna for giving me some

extremely helpful information about FEC and error correction.

ADMIN

MOD

Chiaki (The better remote play) Easiest Guide to use it on windows (and probably other OS) (high ram usage fix) .

Windows

So the chiaki github got archived after i found the solution for some problems and after deciding to make the easiest guide to get it to work so i'm posting it here .(And for anyone who doesn't know chiaki is basically a non official arguably better remoteplay (at least as far as i'm concerned)that's works on practically any platform even windows 7).

DISCLAIMER :

1)This guide is only made in the hope that it will be useful, there is no WARRANTY , and i can't guarantee if this is 100% safe.

2)None of the programs used or mentionned here are mine,if you want to contact their creators you can find them easilly by searching throught the links mentionned here.

3) The chiaki project is not endorsed or certified by Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC.

So the solution i found is :

1-Get chiaki (genius i know) : here's the link https://git.sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki/refs/v2.1.1

2-After extracting it,open the chiaki.exe, double click your ps4 (normally if your pc and your ps4 are on the same network you'll find your ps4 right there).

3)Choose your ps4 version :

*)-- If you're on lower versions then 7.00:

o-In host you should enter your ps4 static ip.(you can find it your ps4 setting ->system->system information).

o-Choose Psn online id and put your id.

o-After that enter the pin code. (Its the one given to you when you add a device in the remote play connection settings ).

o-After that you're good to go just re double click your ps4.(you can skip the following steps).

Bonus Advice: I'm not really sure but using the connect automatically to ps vita feature in your ps4 may give you better remoteplay performance.

Bonus Advice 2:You should use a dummy account (Basically an account that you're gonna use for remoteplay to get in then you're gonna switch to your account (that you actually play one) it's also better for security reasons.

*)If you're on higher versions then 7.00:

o-In host you should enter your ps4 static ip.(you can find it your ps4 setting ->system->system information).

o-Choose Psn account id and put your ID.(To get this one easily use this link :https://github.com/thestr4ng3r/chiaki/issues/158 (Choose online) and follow the instructions until you get a message saying This is your AccountID: ID, just copy the ID to chiaki)

o-After that enter the pin code.(Its the one given to you when you add a device in the remote play connection settings ) .

o-After that you're good to go just re double click your ps4.

***************************************************************************************

Bugs i encoutered :

--Request failed when registering ps4:Probably because of the host being wrong just rentering it (in some cases it may be something else but i'm not sure).

--Keeps disconnecting or lagging : Better use a LAN cable for your ps4 or use 5GHz wifi, personnaly my ps4 is connected in LAN to my router and my pc is connected in 2.4 GHz wifi.

--Low Framerate or just overall not so smooth experience : If you are using an amd gpu it's probably because of that, chiaki uses openGL with is exceptionnaly bad with amd drivers in general (other than that i don't know.

--Input lag : You should use a dummy account (Basically an account that you're gonna use for remoteplay to get in then you're gonna switch to your account (that you actually play one) it's also better for security reasons.

--High ram usage :

1)Get this softaware process governor :https://github.com/lowleveldesign/process-governor/releases.(i.

2)extract the programs to your chiaki directory.

3)Create a .txt in the file.

4)Enter this text :procgov --maxmem 300M chiaki.exe(This will limit chiaki to only use 300M of your ram(You can choose whaterver size you want but this one is the most stable)).

5)Save your .txt and change it into a .bat file.

6)After that everytime you want to acces chiaki just open the .bat file and it should open chiaki automatically and it should stop the high ram usage.

**The tests have been done on a windows 7 laptop with amd and intel integrated graphics cards.

If i forgot to mention something please mention on the thread so i can add it.

Hope this helped you and have fun !

The streaming quality is excellent with no latency issues or lag. I found the selection of games to be diverse and the in-app store was well-stocked. The library of titles offered is regularly updated with new content. I was also impressed with the various customization options available. Overall, I think Chiaki is an excellent streaming service that's well worth checking out.

Hello,

Chiaki is the an open source client for PS4 and PS5 remote play.

This discussion is dedicated to the switch version (chiaki.nro).

Source:

https://git.sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki

To contact us or for any chiaki support you may use:

https://git.sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki#joining-the-community-or-getting-help

On latest PS versions you need to use your PSN account ID.

Please read the instruction below to obtain your PSN account id (PS4 7.0 or greater and PS5):

https://git.sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki#obtaining-your-psn-accountid

For the best performance I recommend the following setup :

use 90DNS to allow nintendo switch lan

802.11ac (a solid network connection for your switch)

use a wired connection for the PS4 or PS5

change the nintendo switch’s network setting MTU from 1400 to 1500.

You may download the latest artifact in:

https://git.sr.ht/~thestr4ng3r/chiaki/refs/

Many thanks to Florian Märkl @thestr4ng3r for his amazing job on the chiaki project.

The GUI is powered by borealis (thanks to all contributors for their project and support !)

https://github.com/natinusala/borealis

And thank you all for your kind support, feedback and help.

Any advice/feedback/contribution/help is greatly appreciated.

thank you a lot.

I see 3 possible causes.

Could you check the content of your chiaki.conf (do not share the content publicly) ?

1) the config file contains more than one ps4 hostname.

the config file is overwritten during first run and a 2nd host might be added to the file.

it happens when the host [hostname] of the config file does not match the real ps4 hostname.

(I will fix it asap) (the hostname must match Settings > System > system information)

2) the configuration file should contain "2" new lines like:

where ** is a base 64 encoded keys

Code:

rp_key = "***********************"

rp_regist_key = "****************"

3) possible internal thread issue.

If you are in case 2 or 3. Are you able to use nxlink to troubleshoot this issue. and share the log in private message.

where X.X.X.X is your nintendo switch IP. From the homebrew menu run Y (netloader)

Code:

nxlink -a X.X.X.X -s ./chiaki.nro

Hello Naokinx.

the chiaki.conf is just a simple flat file.

you can create it with your favorite text editor.

Please find the template bellow:

Code:

# required: PS4-XXX (PS4 local name)

# name from PS4 Settings > System > system information

[PS4-XXX]

# required: lan PS4 IP address

# IP from PS4 Settings > System > system information

host_ip = X.X.X.X

# required: sony oline id (login)

psn_online_id = ps4_online_id

# required (PS4>7.0): https://github.com/thestr4ng3r/chiaki#obtaining-your-psn-accountid

psn_account_id = ps4_base64_account_id

# optional(default 30): remote play fps (must be 30 or 60)

video_fps = 30

# optional(default 720p): remote play resolution (must be 1080p, 720p, 540p, 360p)

# 1080p is for ps4 pro only

video_resolution = 720p

let me know

Hello Broduskii,

I check this error code. It looks related to session registration and login.

What is your ps4 version ? the registration system changed with the version 7.0.

if you are < 7.0:

Please try to remove the psn_account_id from the config file. and let me knowif you are > 7.0:

Please verify your "psn_account_id". if still facing an issue please send me your nxlink logs (in a private message).

Code:

nxlink -a X.X.X.X -s ./chiaki.nro

The Switch's wifi is fine. You just need to use 5GHz.

Hello lolz,

I honestly don't know.

you may raise an issue on the upstream project.

https://github.com/thestr4ng3r/chiaki/issues?q=

I have checked closed issues with few keywords without success.

I also checked the main page.

(Personal guess: I think a valid and a linked psn id is required to properly map RP users against the PS4 local account)

On version < 7.0 it might be completely different though.

thank you a lot aldone for this review.

I facing the same issue with my network connection. I m waiting store reopening to buy a 802.11ac 5ghz and continue testing.

usually, static images are ok but as soon as i start a game troubles are coming. logs show a lot of corrupted frames or dropped data.

Do you know which wifi standard are you using ?

you may try to reduce graphic. but it still unplayable for me

Code:

video_resolution = 360p

https://github.com/thestr4ng3r/chiaki#acknowledgements deserve all credit for this project. I m just doing my best to port it on switch.

Look then I tell you my switch is in 5ghz wifi and my ps4 is in lan. Now the thing is that at 720p with god of war freeza but with crash insane trilogy it is very fluid and I also tried crash in dock and it's fantastic. Obviously all the credits go thestr4ng3r but the compliments also go to you for bringing his work to switch.

It looks similar to the 1st issue. nxlink logs would help a lot.

what is you PS4 firmware version ?

It might comes from.

discovery issue: the switch failed to initiate info gathering.

PS4 is in standby mode: the ps4 is off

PS4 remote play in not enable: Settings -> Remote Play (ensure this is ticked) -> Add Device

PS4 user in not logged in: be sure to have an opened session with the same user as configured in chiaki.conf

Registration failed: check the ps4 version (remove the psn_account_id if your version is < 7.0)

Threads issue: a PS4 registration success appeared on screen followed (2~3 second after) by a logout message (upper left corner of the main screen). at this point the app is frozen and communication sockets are down.

It's works. It was not inside the Settings -> Remote Play -> Add Device menu. Once inside this menu on the PS4, just enter the PIN that appears on the Switch text box menu Chiaki.

But it I close and reopen it it just gives me a green screen...

I publish you the nxlink log and my chiaki.conf

after being overwritten by the application

Really happy to see this, but right now I'm getting a crash when starting the nro, and I'm not sure why yet. There doesn't seem to be a crash log/dump either, but here's the error screen:

there is few issue related to this code.

https://github.com/thestr4ng3r/chiaki/search?q=0x80108bff&type=Issues

I think 0x80108bff is a generic issue code returned by the PS4. it does not helps a lot.

Could you please try in 30 fps ?

I remember getting a similar error while running in 1080p 60fps from my ps4 slim.

Hello hippy dave,

unfortunately this error does not help a lot. the process counter PC is at 0. it means the process did not start at all.

what is your switch firmware / homebrew launcher / atmosphere .. ?

could you verify the sd file copy of chiaki.nro it might be corrupted. or maybe you are running a different version of atmosphere / hb ...

Thank you, it turned out to be the SaltyNX sysmodule I had loaded, without that the nro starts fine now.

After entering the pin I now get green screen, besides the two added lines you mentioned, the .conf it also has "rp_key_type = 2". My ps4 is on 5.05 so I'm not using accountid.

edit: ok it's working, as long as I rewrite the original .conf file each time, and connect using a pin. Further connections without rewriting the .conf just give green screen, as other people have been finding. The video stream just about keeps it together at 30/360, any higher and it breaks up a lot. I found the home button mapped to minus, which is handy, unfortunately couldn't find a touchpad press for The Last Of Us in-game menu. Maybe that could be mapped to a screen touch - most games like TLOU just use the touchpad as a button, so you don't need to bother with touch coordinates etc.

Chiaki

Disclaimer: This project is not endorsed or certified by Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC.

Chiaki is a Free and Open Source Software Client for PlayStation 4 Remote Play

for Linux, Android, macOS, Windows and potentially even more platforms.

Features

Everything necessary for a full streaming session, including the initial

registration and wakeup of the console, is supported.

The following features however are yet to be implemented:

Congestion Control

H264 Error Concealment (FEC and active error recovery however are implemented)

Touchpad support (Triggering the Touchpad Button is currently possible by pressing T on the keyboard)

Rumble

Configurable Keybindings. Though, for the moment you can use the following:

⏎ -> Cross

⌫ -> Moon

\ or X -> Box

] or C -> Pyramid

F or [ -> Share

⇦⇧⇩⇨ -> D-Pad

Esc -> PS

Installing

You can either download a pre-built release (easier) or build Chiaki from source.

Downloading a Release

Builds are provided for Linux, Android, macOS and Windows.

You can download them here.

Linux: The provided file is an AppImage. Simply make it executable (chmod +x .AppImage) and run it.

Android: Install from Google Play or download the APK from GitHub.

macOS: Drag the application from the .dmg into your Applications folder.

Windows: Extract the .zip file and execute chiaki.exe.

Building from Source

Dependencies are CMake, Qt 5 with QtMultimedia, QtOpenGL and QtSvg, FFMPEG (libavcodec with H264 is enough), libopus, OpenSSL 1.1,

protoc and the protobuf Python library (only used during compilation for Nanopb).

Then, Chiaki builds just like any other CMake project:

git submodule update --init

mkdir build && cd build

cmake ..

make

Usage

If your PS4 is on your local network, is turned on or in standby mode and does not have Discovery explicitly disabled, Chiaki should find it.

Otherwise, you can add it manually.

To do so, click the "+" icon in the top right, and enter your PS4's IP address.

You will then need to register your PS4 with Chiaki. You will need two more pieces of information to do this.

Obtaining your PSN AccountID

Starting with PS4 7.0, it is necessary to use a so-called "AccountID" as opposed to the "Online-ID" for registration (streaming itself did not change).

This ID seems to be a unique identifier for a PSN Account and it can be obtained from the PSN after logging in using OAuth.

A Python 3 script which does this is provided in scripts/psn-account-id.py.

Simply run it in a terminal and follow the instructions. Once you know your ID, write it down. You will likely never have to do this process again.

Obtaining a Registration PIN

To register a PS4 with a PIN, it must be put into registration mode. To do this, on your PS4, simply go to:

Settings -> Remote Play (ensure this is ticked) -> Add Device

You can now double-click your PS4 in Chiaki's main window to start Remote Play.

Acknowledgements

This project has only been made possible because of the following Open Source projects:

Also thanks to delroth for analyzing the registration and wakeup protocol,

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about the fictional artificial intelligence from the 2012 Spike visual novel adventure game Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. For the human fictional character and in-universe visual inspiration from the 2016 mystery horror anime series Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School, see List of Danganronpa characters § "Chiaki Nanami".

Fictional character

Chiaki NanamiDanganronpa characterArt of Chiaki Nanami by Rui KomatsuzakiFirst appearanceDanganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (2012)Created byKazutaka KodakaDesigned byRui KomatsuzakiVoiced byEnglish: Christine Marie Cabanos[1][2]Japanese: Kana Hanazawa[3]

Chiaki Nanami (Japanese: 七海 千秋, Hepburn: Nanami Chiaki) is a fictional character from Spike's 2012 visual novel Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Formally known as the Ultimate Gamer (超高校級の「ゲーマー」, Chō-kōkō-kyū no "Gēmā", lit. Super High School Level Gamer), Chiaki initially appears as an apparent high school student trapped with fifteen other students in the Jabberwock Island chain, where an omnipresent robotic bear named Monokuma forces the student to participate in a killing game in exchange for freedom. She can bond with the protagonist Hajime Hinata in both social life gameplay and the main storyline before her true persona is revealed as the artificial intelligence observer daughter of Chihiro Fujisaki, and the younger sister of Alter Ego and Usami / Monomi. Chiaki makes a cameo appearance in two episodes of the anime series Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School, with an identical character the original Chiaki Nanami, the visual basis for her design, appearing in the prequel Despair Arc who bonds with Hajime.

Chiaki was created by writer Kazutaka Kodaka as the game's heroine, with her traits being based on those of "the ideal woman." She is voiced by Kana Hanazawa in Japanese and Christine Marie Cabanos in English. Critical response to Chiaki has been highly positive due to her role in the Goodbye Despair narrative as she takes a major impact in the class trials and her comfort provided to the main character, to the point of being cited as one of the best characters. The parallels between Chiaki and her human counterpart in the anime series also earned a mixed to positive response.

Concept and creation[edit]

In contrast to Kyoko Kirigiri from the first Danganronpa video game whose main goal was assisting the player character Makoto Naegi in investigating the killing cases, Kazutaka Kodaka created Chiaki to be more of a heroine who would bond with Hajime Hinata.[4] describing her as "the ideal type of woman."[5][6] Rui Komatsuzaki designed the character; in early development of the game, Chiaki was envisioned to be its tallest character.[7]

In regards to characterizing the artificial intelligence Chiaki in the anime series, a second, human Chiaki was envisioned as having once had a fateful meeting with anger-driven Hajime in order to bring across him aid in the story across his multiple dilemmas, including his incoming transformation into his alter-ego Izuru Kamukura, and his developing relationship with future series' antagonist Junko Enoshima, with the artificial intelligence Chiaki basing her physical appearance and actions off of class 77-b's memories of the human Ultimate Gamer.[8] Shortly after the death of the Ultimate Gamer in the anime series, the artificial intelligence Chiaki makes an appearance reenacting the first scenes of Goodbye Despair. Kodaka was initially concerned that people who did not play Goodbye Despair and solely watched the anime series would not understand the distinction between the artificial intelligence Chiaki and her human counterpart as the anime did not explicitly elaborate as such in the scene; consequently as a result, the final episode of the anime series elaborates heavily in dialogue that there were two separate, unrelated characters using the same identity and interacting with Izuru/Hajime.[6]

In Japanese, Chiaki is voiced by Kana Hanazawa whom producer Yoshinori Terasawa felt was a good fit.[9] Hanazawa described Chiaki as "someone who may not stand out among her classmates who ooze uniqueness, but once she begins talking it is clear she has a strong sense of justice and is a girl who is considerate of her friends", citing things she had to be careful of when voicing Chiaki to be not to talk too fast or too much, and to speak slowly as if she were thinking about what she was saying as she was saying it, while speeding up her dialogue flow on the subject of video games.[10] In English, Chiaki is voiced by Christine Marie Cabanos.[11]

Appearances[edit]

In video games[edit]

Chiaki is the main heroine of the video game Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Initially presenting as a sleepy, laid-back student who is inexperienced in the ways of the world but very skilled at video games,[12] she becomes a central figure of the class trials along with Hajime Hinata, most notably the second one when she assists him in connecting a murder case with the video game Twilight Syndrome, which robotic bear Monokuma had offered the students to play to understand how the culprit and victims were related.[13] When the rebellious Nagito Komaeda tries to destroy the islands upon learning the truth of his identity and their true location, Chiaki accidentally kills Nagito by throwing poison at him to put out a fire surrounding him, with Nagito arranging the scene in advance to look as if he had committed suicide according to his plan to ensure her survival alone and the execution of the other students at the subsequent class trial. Thwarting Nagito's plans by confessing her identity to the other students as one of those to have trapped them on Jabberwock Island. Addressing Usami as her sister and hoping their father would be proud of them, Chiaki is then executed alongside Usami by getting crushed by a Tetris block in order to save the remaining students.[14] It is learned during the subsequent graduation ceremony that Jabberwock Island exists in a virtual reality created by the Neo World Program, and that Chiiaki (alongside Usami and Alter Ego) was actually one off three AI programs created by her "dad", the late Chihiro Fujisaki (a character from the previous Danganronpa game), programmed to observe and protect the students (in actuality members of the Ultimate Despair organisation rendered amnesiac) during rogue Future Foundation agent and killing game survivor Makoto Naegi's rehabilitation experiment. However, a remnant of her consciousness remains intact long enough to allow her to help Hajime during his final conflict with the AI of Junko Enoshima controlling Monokuma (whom he had inserted into the programme before being memory-wiped) who threatens the surviving students with either sealing them forever in the islands or turning them into her replicas.[15]

Chiaki appears in the sixth and final chapter of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony as a persona adopted by the new mastermind, the Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony reality television showrunner, alongside those of the cast of Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair, as well as a part of the game's post story content mode, the "Ultimate Talent Development Plan", in which the player can interact with the entire cast from the franchise; Chiaki's individual storyline referencing her connection to Chihiro. Chiaki reappears in Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, an expanded version of the "Ultimate Talent Development Plan" released as a part of the Danganronpa Decadence bundle in 2021.[16]

In other media[edit]

In the anime series Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School, it is revealed that the Chiaki computer program was based on a human student who attended Hope's Peak Academy, the game-loving Ultimate who befriended Hajime Hinata before he chose to become Izuru Kamukura.[17] She is later skewered to death, leading to Izuru deciding to take on a neutral role in the coming war.[18] In the final scene of "Goodbye, Hope's Peak Academy", the A.I. Chiaki appears with Nagito and Hajime reenacting the first scene of Goodbye Despair.[19] In the series finale "The School of Hope and the Students of Despair", Izuru finally bids farewell to their memory of Chiaki and her human counterpart, as he embraces a sense of purpose for the first time with the restored and rehabilitated Remnants of Despair.[20]

Chiaki appears in two manga adaptations of Goodbye Despair, one of which partially retold from her perspective, and the other of a non-canonical anthology format.[21][22] Chiaki also appears as a guest character in a 2021 crossover event between Identity V and Danganronpa as a alternate skin for the player character, with the option of being chased by Monokuma.[23] A tie-in figurine of the character was also created, alongside one of Nagito Komaeda.[24]

Critical reception[edit]

Kana Hanazawa (left) and Christine Marie Cabanos (right) voiced Chiaki in Japanese and English, respectively

Chiaki's role in the original Goodbye Despair game earned praise. Comic Book Resources regarded Chiaki as one of the best characters from Goodbye Despair due to how she shows off her gaming skills and the growing relationship between her and Hajime after they met on the island.[25] The Gamer listed her as the fifth best Danganronpa character based on her calm personality and "selfless" heroic actions in Goodbye Despair due to how she aids Hajime and the rest of her friends to leave the virtual world.[26] In a popularity poll from the franchise for the collected release of Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair, Chiaki the fifth spot. To celebrate, Rui Komatsuzaki did an illustration of the top five to be featured in the re-release of the games, Reload.[27] Rice Digital regarded Chiaki as one of their favorite Danganronpa characters alongside Nagito, making her accidental murder of this character shock the writer when playing the game. Her return in the finale of the game to aid Hajime despite being revealed as an AI also attracted the writer. He added "To know that she was always the hope and that she was developed specifically to lead the cast of Danganronpa 2 to fight against Junko makes it even more of a bitter ending for our beloved gamer girl."[28] Koi-Nya referred to Chiaki as one of the best Danganronpa 2 characters based on hear traits and important actions in the narrative, most notably her assistance in the fight against Junko's AI.[29]

Chiaki's incarnation from the anime earned praised by Manga.Tokyo for standing out in the early Despair Arc episodes where she uses her skills as a gamer to have fun with the rest of the cast to the point of feeling like the main character of the second episode.[30] enjoyed the bond that both Hajime and Chiaki had in the anime.[31][32] Fandom Post went to say that Hajime's decision to hang with "Chiaki, which is both symbolic of his frustration and sad to me, because Hinata and Chiaki’s relationship in this show has been absolutely adorable to watch."[33][34] Many felt their relationship became tragic when Hajime nearly lost his humanity, to the point where he could not react to her death.[35][36] Biggest in Japan regarded the inclusion of an "original" Chiaki Nanami as one of the biggest twists in the Danganronpa 3 anime in early episodes due to her persona from the video game not being actual Chiaki which leaves a feeling of mystery especially as if her death could bring a major impact in the narrative. The writer said "While it’s great to discover that one of the most memorable Danganronpa 2 characters has been granted a [brief] new lease on life for Danganronpa 3, what really excites me about her appearance are the implications she brings to the story."[37] Gaming Trend found the original Chiaki as an entertaining during the Despair Arc but felt that Junko Enoshima often overshadowed her.[38] There was also commentary with regard to the nearly emotionless Izuru reacting to the death of the original Chiaki, which came across as an important emotional scene, as Izuru starts crying when seeing her in her last moments.[39][40]

The voice actresses behind Chiaki were also praised. In describing the "dream" Japanese cast of Goodbye Despair, Kotaku remarked on Kana Hanazawa's work, mostly due to her work in Psycho-Pass as Akane Tsunemori which would attract fans from such series.[41] In a poll by AnimeAnime, Chiaki was voted as the 14th best Hanazawa character specifically for her role in the anime series.[42] James Beckett from Anime News Network praised Christine Marie Cabanos's work as Chiaki for providing a good performance especially in the late episodes during a sad scene.[43] In a 2021 poll, Chiaki was voted as the second best Danganronpa character.[44]
